Since 1996, YWAM has had a ministry in the prison in Stung Treng. There are currently over 300 prisoners, including women, and humanitarian aid is given to improve living conditions, emphasize the high value of human life and the possibility of change for the better, and to prepare inmates for re-entry into society.
YWAM staff visit every month to give humanitarian supplies (toothpaste, mosquito nets, soap etc…), and YWAM has built toilets, showers, dug fish ponds for the prisoners, and provided fish and vegetable seeds (plus gardening equipment) to help supplement the prisoners diet. YWAM has also provided materials for the illiterate to learn to read/write, and on release, provides money for their journey home.
Many prisoners have commented on how important YWAM’s aid was to them while they were imprisoned.
